Mary Leighton – Village at the Park GM

As an organisation our people are the most important part of how we operate.

Our teams are responsible for living our vision and values. These are what drives the care, service and companionship that we provide to our all-important residents.

Our General Manager; Mary Leighton is responsible for overseeing the overall operation of the village. Mary commenced as the General Manager at the Village in 2010. Mary is a Registered Nurse with a nursing and health service management background. Mary completed her Master of Management (Health Service Management) in 2007. Mary has worked in the aged care sector for a number of years owning as well as managing rest home and hospital facilities. In her management role she aspires to developing Village at the Park’s potential – to become the most highly rated village complex in Wellington.

Our Village Manager; Brian Leighton is responsible for the marketing of our villas and apartments, as well as liaising with village residents to co‑ordinate activities, maintenance and support.

A Registered Nurse is on site at all times. Each care area has a Care Manager who is a professional nurse. In addition there are Enrolled Nurses, Caregivers, Household staff, Maintenance and Grounds staff to ensure Village at the Park’s residents are fully catered and cared for.

We value the importance of education and recognise this by having an educator to run a comprehensive inservice training programme.  Our Caregivers receive NZQA qualifications through CareerForce Training Programmes.  Our Cooks and Kitchen staff hold additional NZQA units in food safety and handling.  Key staff hold current First Aid Certificates.

Our facility also contracts other medical professionals to support residents where needed, these include but are not limited to General Practitioners, Physiotherapists, Dietitian and Podiatrist.

Village at the Park is a member of the Retirement Villages Association and NZ Aged Care Association.
